Where Different Thinkers Become Confident Learners

Blairwood Academy serves students ages 2½ to 21 who learn best with individualized attention, small class sizes, and teaching rooted in science. We believe that learning differently does not mean learning less — and we prove it every day.

Our mission is simple: to end illiteracy in The Bahamas, one child at a time. Whether your child is two years old and missing milestones, or a teenager who has been told they will never read at grade level, Blairwood is where that story changes.

Early Years

Early intervention for children with speech delays, developmental milestones not yet met, and behavior challenges. The sooner we start, the more we can do.

Ages 5–12

Primary School

Two tracks built around Orton-Gillingham and multisensory learning — Integrated Learning Unit (5:1) and Mainstream Academic Class (7:1).

Ages 12–21

Secondary School

Modified academic high school with BJC/BGCSE pathways, plus a Vocational & Life Skills track with real community job placement.

Our Early Intervention Program was built on one simple truth: children who receive targeted support before age five have dramatically better outcomes. We serve children ages 2–5 who are showing signs of delays — so they arrive at school ready, not behind.

About the Program

Early Intervention That Changes Trajectories

Approximately ten years ago, Blairwood created this program after seeing how many children arrived at primary school already struggling — and how much of that could have been prevented. This program gives families the tools to act early.

Ages 2–5

Children who may be at risk for speech, language, or learning delays — or who are showing behavior challenges at home or in the community.

Following the initial assessment, the Course Director will recommend the program best suited to your child's academic level, learning profile, and long-term goals. Both tracks use the Orton-Gillingham multisensory approach.

5:1 Student-to-Teacher Ratio

Integrated Learning Unit

For students who need more intensive support and benefit from a smaller, more structured environment with a focus on life skills alongside academics.

Best suited for students with

  • Mild autism spectrum disorder
  • Cognitive delays
  • Critical thinking challenges
  • Academics 3–4+ years behind grade level

What your child receives

  • Fully individualized curriculum

Modified Academics High School

A full academic program leading to a Blairwood diploma, with BJC and BGCSE curricula available for students working toward recognized national qualifications.

From first contact to your child's first day, here's exactly what to expect.

Complete the Admission Form

Fill in our short admission form — available by emailing us or calling the school. It takes about 10 minutes and gives us the basic information we need to prepare for your child's assessment.

Initial Assessment

Come in for a one-hour basic assessment with our team. We'll evaluate your child's current academic level, learning profile, and any areas of challenge to understand where they are right now.

Assessment fee: $100

Meet the Course Director

Sit down with our Course Director to review the results and discuss the program that best suits your child. You'll leave with a clear plan — and the confidence that your child is in the right place.

Transparent, Tailored Pricing

School fees are discussed individually with the Course Director after the assessment. Fees are based on the specific program your child is enrolled in and the level of support required — because no two children are the same, and neither are their plans.

Need Documentation for Another School?

If you require a written referral letter for placement at another institution, we offer a comprehensive two-hour assessment specifically for this purpose.

What age does Blairwood accept students?
We serve students from age 2½ through 21, across our Early Years, Primary, and Secondary programs.
Does my child need a prior diagnosis to apply?
No. Many families come to us without a formal diagnosis. Our assessment helps identify the right program and can provide documentation if needed.
How soon can my child start after the assessment?
Once the assessment is complete and the program is confirmed, enrollment is typically arranged quickly. Contact us directly for current availability.
Are the fees published anywhere?
Fees are individualized and discussed with the Course Director, as they depend on the program and level of support. Call or email us and we'll be happy to give you a general overview before you commit.
